Nate Ruby called me the other day and says the Excalibur calves are being born as light as his heifer bull calves are. They are 79-80 pounds and are looking great according to him.

Style also sire the Champion Balancer and Maintainer at the Nebraska Cattleman's Classic I have been told! Pics coming soon.
There's about 40 units of 5 ml sexed heifer semen left, and about 30 of the 2 ml.

Bush Angus had a heck of sale this past weekend. The top selling bull was by O'Reilly Factor out of a VRD daughter. $39,000 to Malson's. 21 bulls averaged $9600 by O'Reilly Factor and the cows that sold in the sale bred to him averaged $6000.

Scott Bush called me the other day. He scanned his sale bulls and an O'Reilly Factor x VRD bull scanned an 18.6" REA. Scott says he's had several 16"+ ribeyes before, but was shocked at this dude.

Good buy Tim Loudon.

A lot of breeders are sure noticing that the Soo Line Motives, HF Tiger's & HF Prowlers are looking great.  These cattle have great structure and muscle shape! Use them heavily to improve those traits!

JF American Pride

I saw over a dozen American Pride calves at Janssen Farms in Iowa. They are coming out with low birthweights and they have super type right now.  Let's keep in mind they're young, but they sure look neat.  Dave Janssen tells me it looks like he'll be a heifer bull.  Calves are mostly in the low to mid 70's so far.

SS Incentive

SS Incentive looks good at the Nichols Cryo bull stud!  Now that his 50K test results are in, that added accuracy solidified what his original EPDs proposed he might make.  People are calling in and can't believe how small the calves are, but by summer...they'll be some of the best looking ones in the pasture.

Werning's

The Yardley High Regard and Lock n Load calves look really good!  It's hard to imagine easier fleshing cattle than what the Lock n Load's are.

High Regard is going to raise the bar in the Simmental breed for improving type and eye-appeal. These high Regards are super fronted with excellent hair. High Regard himself looks good at Goeken Farms, and they also have some really good progeny.

Of course, one of Werning's highlights in the heifer offering is a Dream Catcher bred.  This bull is just simply complete in what he produces for quality and calving ease.

SAS Sweet Meat

The Hart Farms in Frederick SD have some great Sweet Meat daughters in production. They rarely have bulls in their sale out of first calf heifers, but Sweet Meat daughters produced heavy bulls with their first calves.  To improve udders and add milk and depth, use Sweet meat.  He also produces great bulls.

Springers best performance bull in his upcoming sale is sired by Sweet Meat.

Special thanks to Jeremie Ruble, ASA Eastern Field Rep, for calling in and reporting that PRS Blazin Hot calves look excellent in several herds that he's visited recently.

He also notes that Angus bull SS Incentive should work great to enhance API value in SimAngus use. With an API on 147....he's perfect to use on heifers in that scenario.

Congrats to Sachau Cattle for his $14,500 Cut Above 3/4 blood heifer that sold in his sale last weekend.

There's been just under 100 registered progeny on Cut Above, yet over 10% of his heifers have sold for $5000 and up+. That's a very high percentage!

Road Trip

Tuesday 7th of February 2012 07:14:53 AM

Lance is starting a "Road Trip" on his way to the Iowa Beef Expo later this week. I should be going to analyze cattle at Springers, Grass Lunning, Kaehlers, Werning, Goeken, Auch, Koupal, Benes, Janssen and who knows what else. Make sure you look at the new calving ease Simmental bull on our site...GLS New Direction. I should see at least a dozen JF American Pride calves...where Chris Janssen says they are really built nicely and are better fronted than the Dream On's.
